Ace a procurement buyer interview
A buyer creates value by negotiating and securing supply. The recruiter tests your negotiation sense, your numbers and your supplier relationship management. Here's how to prepare.
The questions you'll almost certainly get
- "Tell me about a tough negotiation and its outcome."
- "How do you select and evaluate a supplier?"
- "How do you cut costs without sacrificing quality?"
- "How do you handle a failing supplier?"
The golden rule: quantified savings
Cite your results: "-12% on a category", "200k annual savings", "supplier lead times down 20%." A buyer is measured by value generated and risk controlled.
Show your negotiation method
Beyond price, talk levers (volume, lead times, quality, terms). Show you seek durable win-win, not short-term pressure that breaks the relationship.
Think risk management
Supplier dependency, disruption, quality: show you secure the chain (alternative sourcing, contracts, monitoring). This is highly valued.
Practise on the exact job offer
Every sector has its stakes (manufacturing, retail, services, indirect spend…). Take a mock interview for the role you're targeting: the AI recruiter will put you in real scenarios and you'll get a detailed coaching report.
