Ace an export sales interview
An export sales rep sells across borders: the recruiter wants someone comfortable cross-culturally, autonomous and structured. Here's how to prepare.
The questions you'll almost certainly get
- "How do you approach a new market abroad?"
- "How do you adapt your approach across cultures?"
- "How do you manage distance, time zones and local partners?"
- "What are your numbers?" (export revenue, markets opened, distributors)
The golden rule: cross-cultural + numbers
Show you adapt your selling to local codes (pace, negotiation, relationship) AND cite results: "opened 3 markets", "+45% export revenue in two years." Cultural sensitivity without results isn't enough, and neither is the reverse.
Mind your languages… from the interview itself
Part of the interview may switch to another language. Be ready to pitch fluently in English (or another): it's a direct test of how operational you are.
Show your autonomy
Export is often far from HQ. Prove your ability to run a long, complex sales cycle while staying organised and reliable remotely.
Practise on the exact job offer
Every region has its codes (Europe, Middle East, Asia, the Americas…). Take a mock interview for the role you're targeting: the AI recruiter will put you in real scenarios and you'll get a detailed coaching report.
