Ace an HR / recruiter interview
Interviewing when you're a recruiter yourself comes with a trap: the person across from you knows all your techniques. Sincerity and method beat canned formulas. Here's how to prepare.
The questions you'll almost certainly get
- "How do you source a rare or hard-to-find profile?"
- "How do you assess a candidate beyond the resume?"
- "Tell me about a hire that went wrong."
- "How do you work with hiring managers?"
The golden rule: speak numbers AND people
Modern HR is measured: time-to-hire, offer acceptance rate, quality of hire, turnover. Cite your numbers, but also show empathy and ethics: that's the dual face of the job.
Show your advisory role with managers
A great recruiter doesn't just take the order: they challenge the need, reshape an unrealistic job description, coach the manager. Give a concrete example: that's what separates a partner from an order-taker.
Handle the confidentiality question well
You handle sensitive data (salaries, personal situations). A clear answer on how you treat confidentiality and non-discrimination reassures the recruiter immediately.
Practise on the exact job offer
Every HR environment differs (agency, startup, large group, generalist or specialist). Take a mock interview for the role you're targeting: the AI recruiter will ask the right questions and you'll get a detailed coaching report.
