Ace an IT technician interview
An IT technician solves users' problems. The recruiter tests your diagnostic method, patience and ability to explain. Here's how to prepare.
The questions you'll almost certainly get
- "A user says 'it's not working.' How do you proceed?"
- "How do you explain a step to a non-technical person?"
- "How do you prioritise when several incidents hit at once?"
- "Tell me about a complex problem you solved."
The golden rule: a clear diagnostic method
Lay out your approach: reproduce, isolate, test one hypothesis at a time, verify. A technician who structures their diagnosis inspires more confidence than one who "tinkers" at random.
Show your user relations
Half the job is people. Show your patience and your ability to reassure a stressed user while staying clear and jargon-free.
Think prioritisation and traceability
Tickets, urgencies, documentation: show you can rank by impact and keep clean records of your interventions.
Practise on the exact job offer
Every environment differs (L1/L2 support, fleet, network, helpdesk…). Take a mock interview for the role you're targeting: the AI recruiter will put you in real scenarios and you'll get a detailed coaching report.
